NEXTFEST 2017: CALL FOR VISUAL ART – EXTENDED

The call for visual art submissions has been extended to March 31, 2017. A call to the Visual Art Niteclub has been added.

Nextfest is an opportunity for emerging visual artists under 30 who are creating new work. Contributing artists will be paid artist fees and receive festival passes to all of Nextfest’s films, plays and performances. There are 3 opportunities to apply for:

• Gallery Exhibition
• Visual Art Niteclub
• Mural Mentorship

Gallery Exhibitions
Show work at one of four gallery spaces near Whyte Avenue, the Paint Spot, Roots on Whyte, Strathcona Library, and the Roxy Theatre. Feel free to dream big with proposals to these spaces. Please submit a finished body of work or a coherent proposal for new work that will be created for one of the spaces. Feel free to contact us for more information on the gallery venues.

Masks for Monsters
Masks for Monsters, the visual art Niteclub, is a roving masquerade party through the Nextfest visual art venues in Old Strathcona. Participants will creating masks to be worn through the tour which will include a stop at the newly painted outdoor mural and culminate at the Roxy. Create work inspired by the theme or one of the venues. Projection, performance, paint, poetry, or other non ‘p’ related arts are welcome. Apply as a solo artist or as a team.

Mural Mentorship Project
An established mural artist will mentor a student artist to design and paint a mural near Whyte Avenue. We are very excited to announce that Luke Ramsey (lukeramseystudio.com) will be our mentoring artist. The student artist must be enrolled in a post secondary art program in Alberta. They will be paid an honorarium for their work through The Serving Communities Internship Program (SCiP). The mural will be painted May 20 – 31.
